Backend

Laravel Development

The framework most of our backend work is built on.

Laravel is a full-stack PHP framework that supplies the infrastructure most business applications need before they can start on anything specific: database migrations, an ORM, authentication, authorisation, queues, scheduling, caching, mail and a first-class testing setup.

Its practical advantage is convention. Two Laravel applications written by different teams look substantially alike, which means a developer joining a project is productive in days rather than weeks, and a system handed over does not require its author to remain reachable.

Why we use it

We use it because the boring parts are solved well and consistently. Queues, scheduled jobs, database transactions and test infrastructure are all first-party rather than assembled from competing libraries, which removes an entire category of decisions from every project.

The honest trade-off: PHP is not the right choice for CPU-heavy numerical work or for very high-concurrency socket handling, and we would use something else for those. For the request-response, database-backed business applications that make up most commercial software, the ecosystem's maturity and the availability of developers who can maintain it matter more than raw benchmark numbers.
