Kotlin Development

Concise, null-safe, and the language Android is written in now.

Kotlin is Google's preferred language for Android, and the reasons are practical rather than fashionable: null safety at the type level, far less boilerplate than Java, and coroutines that make asynchronous code readable instead of nested. Jetpack Compose extends that to the interface — declarative screens with a fraction of the code, and no XML layouts to keep in sync with the logic that drives them.

Why we use it

We write Kotlin for all native Android work, with Compose for new interfaces. The null safety alone justifies it: null pointer exceptions were the single largest crash category in Android applications for a decade, and Kotlin turns them into compile-time errors. It also interoperates cleanly with existing Java code, so an older application can be modernised file by file rather than rewritten.
