A build tool fast enough that nobody works around it.
Build tooling is invisible when it works and corrosive when it does not. A dev server that takes forty seconds to start and three to reflect a change does not just cost those seconds; it changes how people work, encouraging bigger, less frequent iterations.
Vite starts instantly by serving native modules in development and bundling only for production. The practical effect is a feedback loop tight enough that you stop noticing it exists.
Why we use it
Vite is the build tool across our projects, including the Laravel integration on this site. We chose it for one reason that survives every benchmark argument: developers actually use the dev server instead of working around it.
Its production output is also sensible by default — code splitting, asset hashing and modern targets without a configuration file nobody understands.
